Benromach, 15YO (700ml)

$176.00

Benromach Distillery - 15 Years Old

ABV 43%

A 2015 release to the brilliant Benromach range. The Benromach 15 Year Old is matured in a selection of bourbon and Sherry casks, resulting in an intense but balanced flavour profile. Benromach 15 year old has been matured in a higher proportion of ex-sherry casks than its younger 10 year old sibling – but, like all whisky produced at Benromach since Gordon & MacPhail took the reins in 1993, it’s produced using only first fill barrels. Similarly to Highlander Old Pulteney, the neck of the bottle has been shaped like the distillery stills.

MATURATION: 80% ex-Bourbon, 20% ex-Sherry for 9 years—married back together in an Oloroso Sherry cask for six further years.

Tasting Notes

Nose: beautifully balanced sherry aromas with vanilla pod, zesty orange and spicy ginger complemented by delicate chamomile and menthol notes.

Taste: There's luscious, rich fruit cake with stewed plum, red apple skin and the sharp edge of kiwi fruit.

Finish: Medium to long, sherried with chocolate, herbal with fresh cut grass.

About the Distillery

Benromach is a traditional Speyside distillery owned by a family of whisky-lovers intent on making single malt the right way with true character. A handful of distillers relying entirely on expertise and senses to make the finest handmade whisky; Speyside single malt matured exclusively in first-fill casks, with a subtly smoky character along with their renowned Red Door Gin. Recalling the Speyside tradition of topping up fires with cuts of peat when coal ran low, the Scottish barley is grown locally and malted with a little peat smoke to Benromach's exact specifications before being ground into grist in their 120 year-old four-roller Boby Mill. They specify a lightly peated barley, giving te whiskies their distinctive Speyside character.
