Lagg Distillery,
Inaugural Release Batch #2,
Ex-Oloroso Sherry Cask
50% ABV
After being double distilled the peated smoky spirit is placed into first-fill ex-Bourbon barrels to rest and mature for 30 months. It was then given 6 months to mature in 55 litre ex-Oloroso Sherry casks. Overseen by Distillery Manager Graham Omand the spirit is cared for and nurtured through its maturation cycle. This inaugural release has been bottled non Chill filtered and with natural colour at 50% alcohol by volume. With only 10,000 bottles released for the entire whisky family around the world.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Bonfire embers, white grapes, kiwi fruit and passionfruit, dark chocolate and toasted nuts and Christmas cake.
Taste: Earthy vegetal peat smoke bursts on the scene, summer fruits, creamy fudge, oily with dried dark fruits and subtle well integrated cinnamon spice.
Finish: Long with more bonfire smoke, balanced oak, salted caramel, baking spices and dark toffee.
About the Distillery:
One island, two distilleries. For hundreds of years, to increase their income, small Arran communities made their own spirit in illicit home-made stills. The resulting whisky, which became known as ‘Arran Waters’, was smuggled from Lagg and sold on mainland Scotland. Lagg distillery revives this legacy, albeit this time legally, of coarse!
