Arran, Port Cask Finish Single Malt (700ml)
Arran, Port Cask Finish
Single Malt Scotch
After initially maturing in traditional oak casks for approximately 8 years, The Arran Single Malt in this bottling was finished in a selection of Port casks sourced from an artisan producer of this iconic Portuguese fortified wine.
The Arran Master Distiller, James MacTaggart, has carefully monitored this period of secondary maturation to ensure the perfect balance is struck between the Port casks and the intrinsic sweet-fruity character of The Arran Malt.
The end result is a Single Malt full of charm, complexity and quality.
Nose: Bursting with summer berries, plums, figs and raisins. Creamy vanilla notes, orange citrus and some cinnamon spice.
Palate: Dried dark fruits, Christmas spices, cracked black pepper, summer fruits and dark chocolate.
Finish: Danish pastries, raspberry jam, gingernut biscuits and spice.
The Isle of Arran distillery was built in 1995 and is now one of two distilleries on the Isle of Arran on Scotland’s West Coast. The distillery boasts an ideal spot for production and distribution of whisky with warm fresh sea air, close proximity to the mainland and an abundance of fresh soft water. Arran enjoys a warm microclimate – the atmosphere of sea breezes and clear mountain air, together with the warm flow of the Gulf Stream is ideal for the speedy maturation of single malts. In the early 19th century, there were more than 50 whisky distilleries on Arran, most of them illegal and carefully hidden from the eyes of the taxmen. The Island’s malt whisky was shipped to the mainland and enjoyed by the gentry, who regularly ‘took the Arran waters’. It was acclaimed at the time as the best whisky in Scotland – only rivalled by those from the ‘Glen of Livet’.
