Benromach, Contrasts: Bordeaux Wine Finish 2011 (700ml)

Benromach, Contrasts

Double Matured Bordeaux Wine Finish (2011)

46% ABV

This limited-edition release has been initially matured in first-fill bourbon casks, followed by five years of further maturation in the finest Bordeaux wine casks. This results in delicate honey and floral aromas, forest fruits and toasted oak flavours with soft peat smoke on the finish.

MATURATION: first-fill bourbon casks then Bordeaux wine casks.

Tasting notes

Nose: Subtle hints of rose followed by honey and ripe red fruits.

Taste: Smooth and sweet flavours of zesty tangerine and dark forest fruits are balanced by toasted oak.

Finish: Medium-bodied and fruity, underpinned by subtle peat smoke.

About the Distillery

Benromach is a traditional Speyside distillery owned by a family of whisky-lovers intent on making single malt the right way with true character. A handful of distillers relying entirely on expertise and senses to make the finest handmade whisky; Speyside single malt matured exclusively in first-fill casks, with a subtly smoky character along with their renowned Red Door Gin. Recalling the Speyside tradition of topping up fires with cuts of peat when coal ran low, the Scottish barley is grown locally and malted with a little peat smoke to Benromach's exact specifications before being ground into grist in their 120 year-old four-roller Boby Mill. They specify a lightly peated barley, giving the whiskies their distinctive Speyside character.
