Benromach, Contrasts

High Enzyme Malt 2012

46% ABV

Introducing Benromach Contrasts: High Enzyme. This limited edition single malt was crafted using unpeated high enzyme barley, most commonly used in grain whisky distilling. Matured in first-fill bourbon barrels, resulting in fresh apple, pineapple and a long finish of oak and peppermint.

MATURATION: First-fill bourbon barrels.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Delicate fresh lemon sherbet, malted barley and gren apple aromas, followed by notes of jasmine.

Taste: Sweet and creamy with pink grapefruit, lemon and lime. Pineapple flavours give way to honeycomb and spicy pepper.

Finish: A long, fresh finish with charred oak and peppermint.

About the Distillery

Benromach is a traditional Speyside distillery owned by a family of whisky-lovers intent on making single malt the right way with true character. A handful of distillers relying entirely on expertise and senses to make the finest handmade whisky; Speyside single malt matured exclusively in first-fill casks, with a subtly smoky character along with their renowned Red Door Gin. Recalling the Speyside tradition of topping up fires with cuts of peat when coal ran low, the Scottish barley is grown locally and malted with a little peat smoke to Benromach's exact specifications before being ground into grist in their 120 year-old four-roller Boby Mill. They specify a lightly peated barley, giving the whiskies their distinctive Speyside character.
