Ex-Red Wine Charred Cask

50% ABV

After being double distilled the peated smoky spirit is placed into first-fill ex-Bourbon barrels to rest and mature for 30 months. It was then given 6 months to mature in 50 litre ex-Rioja Red wine charred cask. Overseen by Distillery Manager Graham Omand the spirit is cared for and nurtured through its maturation cycle. This inaugural release has been bottled non Chill filtered and with natural colour at 50% alcohol by volume. With only 10,000 bottles released worldwide.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Smouldering bonfire smoke, light minerality, cocoa powder and vanilla spice with hints of oak.

Taste: Bold earthy peat smoke, dark chocolate, heather, creamy vanilla fudge, summer berries and sea salt.

Finish: Long with earthy peat smoke continuing, salted caramel and subtle floral notes.

About the Distillery:

One island, two distilleries. For hundreds of years, to increase their income, small Arran communities made their own spirit in illicit home-made stills. The resulting whisky, which became known as ‘Arran Waters’, was smuggled from Lagg and sold on mainland Scotland. Lagg distillery revives this legacy, albeit this time legally, of coarse!
