Macbeth, The First Witch, Islay 19YO (700ml)
Linvingstone Presents,
Macbeth - The First Witch
51.7% ABV
Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky
The first of four heavily peated single malts chosen to portray the Weird Sisters in Livingstone’s Macbeth series. As the witches remain un-named in the original text, bottler Elixir Distillers has chosen to keep the origin of this whisky mysterious on the label. However, they have hinted that Pedro Ximenez casks used to mature The First Witch were filled at a distillery on Islay’s Kildalton coast.
This series of Shakespearean Scotch whiskies is the product of a collaboration between design studio Livingstone, whisky writer Dave Broom, Elixir Distillers and the legendary illustrator Sir Quentin Blake.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Fruity and indulgent. Apricot tart, sea salt, oranges.
Palate: Smoky and velvety. Smoked bacon, acacia honey, wild pepper.
Finish: Spicy and peaty. Dried fruits, briny notes, chocolate.
Notes by whisky writer Dave Broom
There, on the little promontory,
a peat fire smoulders
by a soot-blackened cave.
Guttering light, tattered oil cloth,
a weird medicine
swirling in the cauldron.
A promise, a contract,
the draw of a world
of smoke and tar, fish livers,
and enveloping violet night.
