Single Malts of Scotland, Reserve Cask Highland 12YO (700ml)
Single Malts of Scotland, Reserve Casks
A Highland Distillery, 2008 (12YO)
The Single Malts of Scotland Reserve Casks are a flavour-led exploration of fine single malts, bottled in small batches of four to ten casks. Each parcel of bottles shows the variety of styles and flavours found across Scotland, and the differences in angel’s share depending on region. Bottled at a consistent 48% with no added colour and no chill-filtration, the Reserve Casks are intended to suit the palates of both novices and experts alike.
A batch of three ex-sherry butts from a Highlands distillery has been used to create this single malt, distilled in 2008 and aged for more than 12 years. Intense, rich and decadent notes mingle with a touch of spice to make for a truly comforting dram.
Nose: The aromas of a spongey sherry trifle are layered with glacé cherries and a slice of vanilla-and-dark-chocolate cake. A few walnuts appear, followed by strawberry jam spread on a cinnamon bagel.
Taste: Caramel stroopwafel brings plenty of decadent flavours, along with dark-chocolate fudge sauce. Some slight heat comes in the form of a glass of ginger beer, followed up by the syrupy sweetness of blueberry compote.
Finish: A bag of candied ginger remains, along with ground cardamom.
